How to use the P5 pen

Your PonyABC P5 Intelligent Recording Reading Pen (點讀錄音筆) reads PonyABC books and cards aloud in up to 8 languages and records your own voice onto stickers. First, register your pen for its free 1-year warranty.

Buttons

  • Round yellow button: long press = switch on/off; short press = play/pause.
  • Long yellow button, upper part: short press = change reading language; double press = change the pen's voice-prompt language; long press = child lock on/off.
  • Long yellow button, lower part: short press = play audio saved on the pen; long press = Bluetooth on/off; double press = clear Bluetooth pairing.
  • Side + and – buttons: short press = volume up/down; long press + = previous track; long press – = next track.
  • The small hole on the front is the microphone; the dot below it is the indicator light.

Reading books and cards

  1. Switch the pen on (long-press the round yellow button).
  2. Tap a picture or word in a PonyABC book or card.
  3. To change language, short-press the upper part of the long yellow button, or tap a language on the language card.

Recording your own voice

  1. Tap the REC icon on the sticker card.
  2. Tap a sticker and speak clearly towards the microphone.
  3. Tap the sticker again to hear it. Record again on the same sticker to replace it.

Teachers can also copy MP3 files: name each file with the 4-digit sticker number (for example 0001.mp3) and put it in the pen's DIY folder, or use PonyABC Desktop.

Charging

Charge with a USB-C cable for about 3 hours. A full charge gives up to about 5 hours of use.

Adding new books

Use the free PonyABC Desktop app on Windows: connect the pen with a USB data cable, click Sync books, and switch the pen off and on when it says All done!

Something not working?

  • Buttons don't respond: the child lock may be on — long-press the upper part of the long yellow button.
  • New cards or book silent: sync books with PonyABC Desktop, then restart the pen.
  • Won't switch on: charge for 30 minutes with a different USB socket, then try again.
